1. Does spell dmg affect EK? 2. What affects EK, magic or physical critical dmg? 3. Does EK dmg increases by spell dmg or physical(Increased dmg by using 1 handed melee weapons, for example) dmg? Thanks for any further response :) | Posted by on Mar 15, 2013, 10:29:51 AM |

Off hand i cant remember, why dont you search for it? pretty sure there is a eldrich battery ek shadow build thread with loads of detail on the mechanics of ek. Edit; here you go, the search function is pretty helpful and took me about 5 seconds. http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/64424 Last edited by facelessman122 on Mar 15, 2013, 10:46:24 AM | Posted by on Mar 15, 2013, 10:38:33 AM |
Learn to read. It will fix all your problems in this game. | Posted by ItsRay on Mar 15, 2013, 10:39:06 AM |
' Yes. ' There's no such thing as 'magic damage'. A *skill* can be either a Spell or an Attack. *Damage* can be Physical, Elemental, or Chaos. EK is a Spell that does Physical damage. It's affected by spell crit and global crit, which includes pretty much all the crit passives that are not specific to a weapon type. ' It benefits from spell damage and physical damage buffs, since it's a spell that deals physical damage. The mod you mention in your example, though, is increased damage WITH 1 handed melee weapons, which only works with attacks and therefore has no effect on EK. Rule of thumb... Does it say 'Spell' or 'physical damage'? If so, it applies to EK. Does it say 'with attacks', 'elemental damage', or 'with [weapon type]'? If so, it doesn't. | Posted by on Mar 15, 2013, 10:54:12 AM |
The thing with damage types in this game is that they often overlap. For example, Ethereal Knives does spell, physical, and projectile damage. Anything that affects spells, physical damage, and projectiles also affect Ethereal Knives. However, also keep in mind that spell damage and attack damage (damage from weapons, eg 'damage with 2-handed weapons') is the exception to this. Spell and attack damage are mutually exclusive. Spell damage never affects Attack damage, and vice versa. Only 'global' bonuses affect both. You can find out what damage types a skill deals by hovering your cursor over the skill gem. The first line of text right after the skill name gives you a list of catagories that the skill belongs to. Unfortunately, some of the nodes in the passive tree aren't really worded to be perfectly clear. You have to keep in mind that any crit chance/multiplier nodes that don't mention spell crit or a specific weapon are actually global, so it is applied to both spell and attack damage. Any node that mentions a specific weapon will only apply to attacks made with that weapon type. To answer your questions, 1) Yes, EK is a spell, not an attack. It is affected by spell damage bonuses 2) EK is affected by spell crit and global crit, but not crit with specific weapon types. (there is no physical-only crit) 3) EK deals physical and spell damage, so it can be boosted by both spell damage and physical damage bonuses. However, it is not an attack so 'increased physical damage with [weapon type]' nodes do not affect it. There are some support gems that affect physical damage generally; these work with EK. ' u took so much time u post this retarded and yet useless comment while u could had just give him the answer, the path of exile wiki is very vague about what scales EK, so calm ur tits would ya? | Posted by Thomassonigo on Nov 6, 2013, 11:51:54 AM |
Jan 02, 2020 Having Weapon Bond is like having a Locked Gauntlet from 3.5e. It is ridiculous to extend that concept to any compulsory effect that would cause the EK to drop their weapon, and Dan Dillon carries exactly zero weight on rules. A creature can't knock the weapon out of the EK's hand, but they can certainly compel the EK to drop it themselves. Ethereal Knives effected by casting or attack speed? Which one of both effects directly Ethereal Knives? As far as I know EK does physical dmg but its spell so I am confused.
